The present book is, therefore, an answer to this false perception of this lively subject. An effort has been made to suggest to the teachers to follow the paedo-centric approach so that children may become co-travellers in the journey to discover the facts, so that they may be inspired to think about the situations and the problems in a logical way and then come out with their well reasoned out reactions. This active involvement of children at every stage of learning history will surely infuse in them a positive and strong liking for the subject. This approach – to think, to reflect, and attempt a solution in a given situation, is sure to place the subject of history at its high pedestal. It is said that history is the queen of subjects, and this place, due to her, can be won back by her once again, if we sincerely and honestly follow this approach.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Pathak
Dr. S.P. Pathak has been actively associated, as a teacher with the Students of Education at the B.T./B.Ed. and M.Ed. level for about five decades, in addition to guiding the M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars for a number of years. He retired as a Reader from the Department of Education (C.I.E.) Delhi University. He has also traveled far and wide as an academic and has been associated with several academic bodies such as Delhi University, IGNOU, NCERT, CBSE and NCTE participated in, as well as contributed to, various National and International Seminars and conferences on Education and other allied areas. His contribution to in-service programmes of teachers is also commendable. As a student of education he has had very close and intimate interaction with student-teachers, teachers and administrators. He has been and observed the teaching of history in classrooms from very close quarters and has found that this Queen of Subjects has been grossly ill-treated. Though this book he has tried to draw the attention of the academic world, once again to the age old and time honoured Paedo-Centric Approach of teaching-learning process, very conveniently but perhaps intentionally ignored and put on the back burner by most of the schools and teachers with all the disdain and thus depriving this all interesting and vibrant subject its romance, appeal and liveliness. It is hoped that the academic community would try to put this subject at its high pedestal by adopting this all absorbing approach in the interest of students and also of the academics.
