The teacher plays a central role in the learning – process of the pupils. Hence the need to have a high work motivation arises to facilitate the same with all earnestness and sincerity on part of him. One may safely say that the want of work motivation does more harm in the teaching profession than in any other, because the stamp of perfunctoriness tends to be impressed upon the very material upon which the teacher works. In schools, motivation among teachers is essential for their better performance in the classrooms and of course the overall academic development of the students. Thus, to achieve the learning objectives and reach, a reasonable standard, educational institutions should keep a close tab on the motivation level of the teacher. Though there are some studies being undertaken in the areas of work motivation and teacher performance, they are fraught with several inconsistencies. However, this book on work motivation among the teachers exclusively studies the different level of motivation among the teachers of Govt. schools on various dimensions such as dependence, work group relations etc. Regardless to say, the present book opens up a new vista which may help the educational planners, teachers and administrators to identify the factors responsible for creating a conductive learning atmosphere in schools.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Waseem Ahmad Khan
After completing his school education from M.I. Inter college, Sikandra Rao (Presently in Hatras Distt.), Dr. Waseem Ahmad Khan received his Post Graduate degree in Geography from A.M.U. (Aligarh). He has also completed degree courses in B.Lib. Science and B.Ed. from the same University. He then left for Delhi and earned his M.Ed. and Ph.D. in education at J.M.I. (Central University), New Delhi. Having served as a social sciences expert in different schools between 1985 and 1993, Dr. Khan joined the DIET / SCERT, Delhi in 1994 as a lecturer in social sciences and since then he has constantly been providing resource support and training, both pre-service and in-service, at the elementary level. He has an in-depth understanding of the pedagogy of his subject and has given an exemplary contribution to this field. He has also actively participated and organized a number of workshops and training programme at the national as well as international forum. Dr. Khan’s active association with different organization of the national repute such as Council for Teacher Education (CTE), All India Association for Educational Research (AIAER) and Society for Promotion of Education and Sciences (SPES) etc. has a great deal to do with his success both in the academic and non-academic domains. He ahs also undertaken various research projects, with regard to school improvement programmes, findings of which play a significant role in the policy formulation for the same.
