War Despatches: Operation Iraqi Freedom is a Fascinating account of America’s on-going war in Iraq. Through daily dispatches, the book provides an overview of the three-week long war. The race to Baghdad was arguably the fastest advance in military history. Operations were swift and bold leading to easy victory. But hi-tech militaries commit elementary mistakes: not looking beyond quick success and impatience. Wars in the end, are fought and won by soldiers on the ground and not by shock and awe alone. The lessons from the war are still emerging and Operation Iraqi freedom, in many ways, replicates the liberation of East Pakistan in 1971. the book also captures the mood of the was after the was and the urgency to give the Iraqis, self-rule. Altogether, the book is an Indian soldier’s account and interpretation of the was and its aftermath.
