ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mala Bhandari

Mala Bhandari did her Ph.D. in sociology from University of Delhi. Her area of research comprised women, work and quality of their life. Her post doctoral study at the University of Pune, looked into the intro-household dynamics of corporate women executives amidst the changing market economy under the garb of globalization. After a short teaching assignment in one of the leading colleges of Delhi University, she decided to pursue her professional career in Development sector. Having traveled the length and breadth of the country, she has developed a keen understanding of the varying socio-economic and cultural contexts. She has handled independent assignments on various development issues related to education, legal awareness and women. She is particularly interested in regional diversities as they affect various development issues at the local as well as regional levels and change the national scenario accordingly. She has presented research papers at various academic and professional forums and contributed articles in leading journals. She is presently working at the Institute of social Sciences, New Delhi. Her present endeavour is to study the dimension of political empowerment of elected women representatives in local government under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment, 1972.
