The book analyses the relationship between infant death and socio-economic factors, because the infant morality is a major issue in developing countries like India. IT is seen that infant death is caused by diseases, lack of utilization of medial facilities and malnutrition of pregnant women and infant. All these medical factors are influenced by socio-economic status of the person and their attitude towards health-care practices. The work is pioneering in nature as it examines various socio-economic factors such as caste, religion, occupation, education, age group and monthly income etc. which have a direct bearing on the infant mortality. It is a unique study which analyses economic, social and cultural factors affecting infant mortality by taking samples from different strata of society. In order to study the relationship between socio-economic variables and infant mortality, three different localities in Delhi have been selected. The rational behind selection of these localities was to test the differential, within the urban population, based on occupational class. On the basis of the findings some suggestions have been provided to reduce infant death rate effectively. In spite of the fact that there is a decline in infant mortality, certain action plan has to be chalked out to overcome this menace. The Government should increase its efforts to provide primary health care facilities, Radio, T.V. Folk Play and other medium of communication can also play a major role in this regard.
