Plantation crops and spices have a prime role in our day-to-day life. These crops are the backbone of the Indian export economy. The state Kerala is blessed with a biodiversity of plantation crops and spices and ranks top in the production of black pepper, cardamom, coconut and rubber. On a global basis the production of the plantation crops and spices in India is very low. In order to meet the demand in the international market the production of these crops have to be modernised. Considerable progress has been made in research on the production and development of these crops at all India level. Yet crop loss due to diseases incited by fungi, bacteria, viruses and phytoplasmas play a major role in the productivity of these crops. There has been long felt need for a book exclusively on the diseases of major plantation crops and spices in India. An effort has been made to collect information on the various aspects of the diseases nutritional disorders and their management in these crops. Chapters in this book have been contributed by well known plant pathologists of India. It is hoped that this book would be an asset to researchers working on plantation and spice crops, plant pathologists, students, teachers, extension workers and progressive farmers. This book will also serve as a very good source and reference book on the diseases of these crops.
