The Formation of the Maithili language is a brilliant contribution to scientific analysis of the Maithili language, which is spoken by about 2 crores people of Nepal and India. This Maithili language has been the literary vehicle of the Vaisnava poets of Bengal, Assam and Orissa and has inspired the poets of Bengal from Chandidasa upto Rabindranath Tagore. Maithili is from political point of view to be included in the dialects of Hindi, while linguistically it stands in between Bengali and Hindi and is different from both especially on account of each verb forms. It has its own structural form, although it is an Indo-Aryan language, its special features make it different from each of the literary modern Indian languages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Subhadra Jha

Dr. Subhadra Jha, studied linguistic and phonetics under Professor Jules Bloch, Louis Renou and Gaston Fouch and later worked as librarian of Sarasvati Bhavan, Sampuranananda Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi. Recently he retired as research professor of Maithili in the Patna University.
