In recent years, there has been a world wide concern about preserving traditional art, folklore, folk music, dance forms, handicrafts and so on. These rich traditions are vaishing day by day, due to rapid changes that are taking place in these societies. Tribal dance forms are no exception to this rule. Efforts are made to preserve and promote these traditions by documenting them, using various techniques. Social scientists, including anthropologists in India, have made passing references of tribal dances in various monographs and books, however there is not a single book on tribal dances of India. Hence, this humble begining has been made by publishing this book. This piece of work will certainly be useful to students and research scholars of anthropology, sociology, museology, rural and tribal studies, choreography, art and culture, music and dance, professional film makers, and definitely to the departments of tribal development, social welfare, human resource development.

Dr. Robin D. Tribhuwan, M.A. (Sociology), MSc. (Anthropology), P.G.D.I.M. (Post Graduate Diploma in Indology and Museology) Ph.D. (Anthropology) is a trained Anthropologist and well known Development Expert. He has to his credit 23 books and over 150 research papers and articles. Dr. Tribhuwan was felicitated by the Mayor of Pune City in the year 1992, in recognition of his services to slum dwellers, tribal and rural inhabitants. He has worked for research projects funded by W.H.O., UNICEF, UNESCO and Several National and International Organizations. As a Scientific Advisor to S.R. Films, Heidelberg, Germany, he was instrumental in making two documentaries. He has also worked with well known film makers. He has been associated with several N.GO’s, research organizations and Universities as a resource person. Currently he is working in Tribal Research and Training Institute, Pune. He has developed and Implemented with the help of N.GO’s 46 development and health models in rural and tribal areas.
