The future of course is uncertain; yet it is one of the important jobs of an educational planner and administrator not only to run the educational system of today but also to plan for tomorrow in the perspective of the day after. It is well to bear in mind that the child who is entering the school today will be passing out of the school system by the turn of the century and will have twenty-first century. The problem is not imaginary; it is very much near and here. Thus, the task of an educational manager is by no means an easy one. While on the one hand he will be required to keep his feet firmly on the ground, he will have to give free play to his imagination on the other, taking at the same time in his stride the various explosions and quantum jumps, e.g. the population explosion, the knowledge explosion, the explosion of expectations and aspirations among the masses, the second or the third industrial revolution, the green revolution, the white revolution, the developments in the fields of space and nuclear technologies, the search for renewable resources of energy, the marvel of the chip, the developments in the fields of computers and information-communication media, etc. In this volume, ten scholars and administrators from four countries, namely, India, United Kingdom, Canada and Nigeria have focused attention on the future challenges to be faced by educational managers in school education, higher education, non-formal, adult and continuing education as well as professional and technical education. It is expected that the volume will be of great interest to educational planners and administrators both in the developed and developing countries.
