In Nepal, dependence on renewable resources is considerable. A sound long-term strategy is needed for managing these judiciously in order to prevent their non-reversible degradation. This alone will ensure a minimum standard of living on a sustainable basis for our growing population. For sustainable development, this book adopts two major approaches: for setting right the backlog of past ecological ‘sins’, and a preventive approach to insulate the country from future environmental damage. This book is not written as a strict scientific treatise, nor as a book for specialists (although it is hoped they will be interested), bu for anyone with an interest in nature or economics. If you read it without being interested, it is hoped you will become so.
