Development of rural economy has been one of the main goals of developmental planning in India. Of course, this has registered some improvement as far as general economic activity and raising of the level of income are concerned, but the structural problems of rural economy could not be solved to the desired extent despite planned efforts for rural development over forty years. Therefore, the strategies of rural development have been changing over the years.
