ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.S. Dilipsinhji

The author is the grandson of Maharoa Shri Khengarji of Kutch. After a first class career in school, Raj Kumar College, Rajkot and college, St. Stephens, delhi, he was selected by the UPSC in 1950 for Indian Customs Service, Class I. He held various charges with distinction at all the major ports and airports, and as Deputy Director (Vigilance), Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance (Dept. of Revenue); New Delhi; Commissioner of Customs, Bombay and Commissioner of Central Excise, Bombay, Kanpur and Baroda. He was deputed to the U.K. and Bangkok, Kuala Lampur and Singapore on training and seminar in customs work. His final postings were as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance (Dept. of Revenue); Gold Control Administrator of India; and Senior Member, Customs, Excise and Gold (Control) Appellate Tribunal, Bombay, before retirement in 1987.
