The field of migration in India has a chequered history. The pace of changes in all dimensions of Indian economy during the last decade has been both rapid and comprehensive. This scenario has opened up new challenges in labour movements, particularly in textile sector as the present work reveals. Accordingly the present work reveals. Accordingly the study discusses the several dimensions of labour migration from Andra Pradesh to Surat. We hope that this edition will be useful to undergraduate as well as post graduate students, policy makers and organizations at large. In order to understand the condition and the problems of the migrant labourers closely, we decided to focus on textile industry which is attracting a large number of migrant from Andra Pradesh as well as from other states.

Dr. G. Nageshwara Rao: M.A., Ph.D., Born: 16/04/64, Academic Dean, Adventist College of Management Studies, surat-395001, Gujarat, India. He has been teaching in various schools and colleges. Presently working as a professor and Academic Dean at the Adventist College of Management Studies. He has been honoured by several academic organizations for his distinguished works in the field of Sociology, Economics, Management and Education. He also visited Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Singapore. He has been honoured with Bharat Jhoti Award Certificate of Excellence on 11.11.2003 by India International Friendship Society. He has been honoured with Millennium Gold Medel of Achiever on 11.11.2003 by International Institute of Success Awareness. He has also awarded by Sanman Patra for the Best Academician in the year 2002 by Surat City Telugu Samaj.
