Contemporary trends in Insect Science is a festschrift issue in honour of Prof. S.C. Pathak whom I have known for the past twenty years as a teacher, researcher and mentor. Insects are most numerous of all living species, constituting about 75% of animal world. They have adapted over the evolutionary period of about 250-500 million years in the diverse ecological conditions on the earth. The dominance of insects over other animals and coevolution vis-?-vis other plant life has become possible with the specialization of their biological attributes. Contemporary trends in Insect Science is an amalgamation of papers dealing with some aspects of insect ecology, physiology and pharmacology contributed by colleagues and well-wishers of Prof. Pathak. This book has papers dealing with insect dispersal, adaptive behaviour, feeding in ecology; insect immune system in the context of evolutionary history of insects, neuroendocrinology, insect tissue, cell and organ culture, insect pathogens and integrated pest management. It is an attempt to bring together diverse research interests together.
