Manipur, an erstwhile princely State before independence of India in 1947, Is one of the North Eastern States of the Indian Union. The North-Eastern region is mostly hilly except the Brahmaputra valley of Assam and the bowl-shaped valley of Manipur. The State is bounded in the north by Nagaland, in the south by Mizoram and in the west by Assam. The people of Manipur are settled in both the hills and the valley. The hills of Manipur are inhabited by various ethnic groups. It has as many as 33 Scheduled Tribes. The Mao Naga tribe is one of the major tribes. The present book deals with the demographic dynamicsk with special reference to birth control measures among the Mao Nagas.
