The present book on Indian Novels in English is a collection of seventeen research papers and essays written at different times for literary journals and anthologies. There is a general discussion about the sensibility of the Indian Novels in English in the first chapter. It raises several pertinent questions about its nomenclature, nature, scope and serious limitations. The papers are focussed on mainly novels. However, three novelists are also studied in separate papers, They are Kamala Markandaya, Shobha De and V.S. Naipaul. They throw light on the nature of their novels and investigate how far Indian they are in their sensibility. Kamala Markandaya’s concern for the social values of India is lauded, while Shobha De’s place in serious literature is questioned. Naipaul’s novels are commendable but the author questions his nationality. There are fourteen novels critically examined here. They are scholarly discussion giving insights into these narratives. It is hoped that this book will be of good use for students, researchers and the lovers of Indian novels in English.
