Buddhistic Studies

An attempt has been made in this volume to collect and published some contributions to the study of Buddhist thought from eastern and western scholars. Some of the papers originally sent to me for publication in it were lent after having received permission from their authors, to the Editor of the Indian Historical Quarterly for publication in his Journal. I have reproduced them all in it. Various topics relating to Buddhism and Buddhist history have no doubt been dealt with here and I shall consider my labour amply rewarded if this treatise is found useful to those for whom it is intended. I shall be failing in my duty if I do not acknowledge my indebtedness to the scholars of the east and the west who have encouraged me with their thoughtful papers for publication in the pages of this volume.
