ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shiv Rattan Mehta

Shiv R. Mehta is teaching sociology at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Before joining the Panjab University, Professor Mehta was a Sociologist and Head of Evaluation, in the World Bank Project on rural Development in Mauritius. He was also a short-term consultant with World Health Organization, New Delhi on Teamwork in Primary Health Care. Earlier, he was a faculty in the National Institute of Health Administration and Education, and Central Health Education Bureau, New Delhi. Professor Mehta has published extensively. His major publications include, Emerging Pattern of Rural Leadership (1972), Social Development in Mauritius (1981), Rural Development Policies and Programmes (1984), Rural Development Policies and Programmes (1984), Teamwork in Primary Health Care (1985), Society and Health (1992), Communication and Development (1992) and Poverty, Population and Sustainable Development (1997). His major areas of interest are Sociology of Development, Health and Population Studies and Development Communication.
