Face of Goa explores the culture and history of Goa from early records till date, with an aim to provide and exclusive historical and socio-economic study of Goa. This book is designed in such a way that before the reader reads about Goa, he/she explores and expands the very definition of culture to view culture as a continuous process of evolution. Through this new perspective the reader then travels through Goa's past and present to experience Goa through the eyes of a sociologist. The authors thus utilizes both historical records and modern-day observations to provide a more complete picture of India's 25th State in this study. The second section of this work then explores the process of rural-urban migration as it relates to Goa and demonstrates that migration substantially affects a community's cultural patterns and evolution. Mumbai, Mangalore, and Bangalore are the three cities chosen to explore this theme. The third section of this work details how other communities along the West Coast of India were also influenced by the presence of the Portuguese and the resulting cultural evolution of these areas.
