This extremely useful reference work on Vaisnave literature is the result of a team of photographers and researchers who spent eighteen months in India, locating, identifying and photographing numerous hand-printed, paper and palm-leaf manuscripts as well as some printed editions from the Vaisnava traditioins, now available on microfilms in the Adyar Library, the Bodleian Library, and the American University Library. The purpose of the catalogue of Vaisnava literatue aims to preserve the literatures of Vaisnava traditions and make them accessible to scholars in India and the west through the scholars in India and the west through the microfilm technology. When this work was undertaken in the early 1980s, its specific task was to film rare books and manuscripts of Ramanuja, Madhva, Nimbarka, Vallabha and Gaudiya traditions, as well as texts of other sampradayas and individual authors. These works were found in the collections of traditional Vaisnava families, monasteries and academic institutions. In many cases these collections were very extensive. It is on the basis of this collection, that this catalogue was developed. After a detailed introduction and the catalogue of Vaisnava Literature, the book provides a comprehensive alphabetical index comprising of 92 pages, making the catalogue consultation much easier.
