This book "Relevance of Ranganathan’s Cataloguing Principles," is based on the research work carried out for author’s doctoral studies in library & information science, which was awarded in1992 by Nagpur University. It is being published in the book form with the financial assistance of UGC grant from Nagpur University. The book covers the historical development of cataloguing and catalogue codes. The growth of subject approaches and modern methods of subject indexing: Dr. Ranganathan’s contribution to the field of cataloguing and the impact of his normative principles on anglo-american cataloguing rules revisions; treatment of conflict and problem areas in the three codes CCA, AACR, and AACR2; International developments during Ranganathan and post Ranganathan periods for standardisation of Bibliographic data for exchange in machine readable form at International level and the impact and the relevance of Ranganathan’s Principles on Cataloguing and Information retrieval in the current context. This book is an attempt to comprehend and present logically the related literature in a treatise form. This can be of much use as source information on the subject for Librarians, Library Science Teachers, Research Scholars and the students of Library Science as study book for cataloguing and to pursue the research further in this field.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR D. Rajyalakshmi
Dr. Mrs. D. Rajyalakshmi, a postgraduate in Zoology from Marathwada University, Aurangabad (1971) and MLISC from Nagpur University (1985). She has first class position to her credit in MSC (Zoology), BLISSC and music course. She got her Doctorate in Library and Information Science, from Nagpur University in 1992. Her Subject of study for Doctoral Degree was “Impact of Ranganathan on AACRâ€, which is being published as the book entitled as “Relevance of Ranganathan’s Cataloguing Principles†with the UGC grant for publication. She has worked as a Zoology teacher for a years in Degree colleges in Aurangabad, Hyderabad and Nagpur. She worked as Assistant librarian, university of QATAR, DOHA, for 4 years. As information officer under Biotechnology Information System, DBT Govt. of India, in NEERI, Nagpur for six years during 1992-1998. She worked as technical editor for Asian Water Journal, at Singapore for first as a publishers, (1998-1999). She joined as Reader in Library and Information Science in Nagpur University in 1999 and currently Heading the department of Library and Information Science Nagpur University. She is a widely traveled person and delivered lectures in various universities in India and Abroad. She has visited QATAR, Singapore, USA, MUSCAT, and UK. To her credit she has 25 publication in National Journals and 50 papers in National International conference; workshops, and UGC Reference Courses. She is a life member of ILA, IASLIC, IATLIS, APLIB, ASSO Information Foundation society and IWSA.
