Dictionary of Library Science and Information Systems

The main aim of this dictionary is to explain and define library science terms and concepts, identify modern information techniques and what to exclude are increasingly difficult to make. The simplest guide to whether a term or organization should be included has remained the likelihood or otherwise that anyone reading the literature of these field will find the term regularly mentioned. It is impossible to include everything. The international nature of the dictionary has been retained, although there is a British emphasis. Entries, particularly for databases, networks and computer technology have to be included with an eye on their probable long-term importance. The relevance and usefulness of the dictionary should nonetheless remain of high value to all involved in the information handling libraries, the book trade, bibliographers and those library science students and teachers who use their services frequently.
