Occasionally, we hear that Sanskrit is a dead language and no significant works are being produced in the same. But, it seems that these types of statements are being uttered by those persons who never tried to see it richness in terms of its quality and variety of literary forms i.e. from traditional to the newly developed. It is roughly estimated that more than 3000 works in Sanskrit were composed during the Post-Independence period i.e. 1947 to todate, and during the whole span of modern period this figure may rise to about 10,000 works. The present volume is intended to give a broad overview of Post-Independence creative Sanskrit literature. It includes 70 critical articles on various aspects of the subject, which are carefully divided in various sections like 1. State-wise Contribution, 2. Author and work Studies, 3. Literary forms, 4. Themes and 5. Periodicals. An attempt has been made by the editor to collect articles from eminent Sanskrit scholars and creative writers from all over India, in which he has been fairly successful. Overall, the volume highlights meritorious and voluminous contribution to Sanskrit literature during the era. The volume also includes an exhaustive and classified bibliography which is testimony to the fact that Sanskrit is a still living language and it also proves its wealth and variety of literary output of the Post-Independence era. Moreover, it also provides a list of Sanskrit works awarded by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. This volume would be of great interest to all those who are researchers, teachers and students of Sanskrit and those who are keen to know about the Post-Independence Sanskrit literature.
