The book provides a new dimension to the understanding Eliot, beyond already known facts and criticism. Its basic objective is to examine the adverse criticism which has been levelled against T.S. Eliot as poet, critic and playwright, and to defend him on each of these counts. The first chapter, "The Making of T.S. Eliot", seeks to enumerate the various influences which shaped Eliot’s mind and character from his early years to the years of his maturity. The next three chapters deal with his poetic progress, his criticism and his achievements as a playwright respectively. The fifth chapter is the most vital part of the present book where a defence of Eliot has been attempted strongly and logically. The last chapter contains the conclusion. The book is an attempt to understand Eliot and his critics thoroughly.
