The planet earth has undergone major phases of evolution and deformation during the past geological history. Modern geological and geophysical data indicate that the earth was exposed to chaotic, catastrophic and cyclic rhythms rendering a very complex pattern of evolutionary processes on time scale ranging from years to several million years. The subject "Geospectroscopy" deals with the complete spectrum of these processes. A major revolution in the earth sciences, during the past decades, has been the appreciation that the earth constitutes a coupled dynamical system encompassing lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere. Although each of these has distinct entities, under certain conditions, they do get strongly coupled and exhibit remarkable similarity with external processes on identical time scales. This volume is intended to serve as a simple comprehensive resource for understanding the emerging views and mechanism of all these geo-processes. The book covers wide spectrum of the comprehensive subject matters of cyclicities of the geo-processes and provides the basis for addressing several unanswered questions so that readers and researchers can reach to a healthy and sound conclusion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.K. Tiwari

Dr. R.K. Tiwari, Deputy Director at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, obtained his Ph.D. degree in Geophysics in 1985, from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is presently leading a project on the time series analysis and modeling of palaeoenvironmental dynamics. He was the DAAD fellow at the University of Kiel, Germany, during 1985-87 and visiting scientist at the University of Bonn, Germany in 1999. he has published several works (over 50 papers) on periodicities, predictability and chaos on varied geophysical topics in national and international journals. Dr. Tiwari is recipient of Krishnan Gold Medal of Indian Geophysical Union (1987) for his significant contributions in geophysics. He is fellow of IGU and GSI.
