The Position of Women in any society is the true index of its cultural and spiritual potential. In the words of Swami Vivekananda, That country and that Nation which do not respect women have never become great, nor will ever be in future. From time immemorial, women have occupied an honored place in Indian society. Women had reached very high standards of learning and culture during the Vedic and post-Vedic age. Rig Veda, the earliest scripture in the world, contains hymns by as many as twenty-seven women seers. During the period of the Upanishads women participated in philosophical discussions convened in the courts of kings and emerged as seekers of the highest knowledge, of God. In this set of 5 volumes are presented the life sketches of some such great women right from the Vedic times.
