The book highlights the struggle for freedom from the oppressive Dogra raj of the Kashmiris of Jammu and Kashmir. The Accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India has been under consideration ever since Independence and has been discussed at numerous political or academic forums and in books on Kashmir or Partition, but no comprehensive picture of Accession has yet emerged out of these discussions. To arrive at a right conclusion if is equally necessary that the march of events hi history is narrated in proper perspective and logical sequence. But books on Kashmir’s Accession have dealt with the subject haphazardly or at best relied on a deductive method to reach a conclusion, so that one has only an oblique view of the factors leading to it. Credit goes to the Author for putting together the relevant bare facts of the so-called Accession in the form of a book. She is amply suited to the task as she has a long standing association with the family of the Kashmiri leader, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, having lived in an visited Kashmir during the momentous years before 1947. She has first-hand knowledge of the Valley’s politics and is also an eyewitness to the ups and downs of the Liberation Struggle against the tyrannical Dogra rule. The book, "The Kashmir of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah" a biography of Sheikh Abdullah is given through a series of interviews on both sides of the border with teachers, friends, political associates, freedom fighters and patriots who were close to the Sheikh. The book is very informative and documented, depending on published material, authentic documents and not hearsay. People interested in political biographies will find it fascinating and for these readers who are mature enough to remember the people interviewed and those times, if will be a nostalgic journey back through those years.
