This book is an attempt to make analysis of the socio-economic development of Kashmir Valley in which the role of human resource in the exploitation of natural resources and their management has been studies. The facts and features of human resource affecting pace and level of development of the valley have been assessed in detail. The book also assesses the nature of resource base and resource utilization of the region. It has been studied in relation to land, water, forests, natural scenic beauty and industries. A survey of social amenities and infrastructural facilities, affecting the rate of development, has also been presented. The book also presents an account of the development performances and the weakness of different sectors of economy of the region. An attempt has been made to find out the spatial variation in the levels of development achieved and delineate the areas lagging behind in socio-economic development. On the basis of the findings of the study some useful suggestions for future strategy and development of the region have been presented at the end.
