The present book is an attempt to put human rights of the deprived slum dwellers who have been trying from time immemorial to achieve their most basic rights i.e., rights to food, shelter and education etc. This is the most vulnerable section of the society who are still living a life of destitution in dark, dingy and filthy environment as animals. This book reveals how systematically they have been kept neglected about the human rights education. It also stresses the main factors responsible for the migration of marginal/landless rural labourers and the impact of migration on their urban life.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Kanta Rehman
Dr. Kanta Rehman is a faculty member of Indian Institute of Human Rights, New Delhi. Her fields of specialization are participatory rural development, community development and human rights. She has also conducted various evaluation studies related to income generating programmes, district primary education programme, and national literacy programme at the grassroots level in rural India. She has done indepth study of urban slum dwellers working as a researcher as well as a coordinator in action work in various slums of Delhi, Calcutta, Madras and Bombay with various national and international level NGOs. She has also written a number of articles and is co-author of various books.
