The book also deals in detail with various provisions made for development of women by the Government of India during various Five Year Plans. The book explains the status of rural Indian women, Dalit women and tribal women, their oppression and various other problems faced by them, their poor educational and economic status of women in Assam. Finally, the book suggests steps and remedial measures that may be adopted for accelerating the development and empowerment of women in India.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Krishna Bhowmik

Krishna Bhowmik (b.1958) is an M.A. in Economics from Osmania University, Hyderabad. She teaches Economics in Vivekananda Vidhalaya H.S. School at Digboi (Assam) The most important of the author’s career is that she did not even complete her graduation when she was married in 1977. With her strong determination she completed her graduation in Economics in 1978. Because of Family responsibilities she could not proceed futher with her studies immediately after her graduation. However, her strong will and determination led to the successful completion of M.A. in Economics in 1997 after a span of 19 years after graduation, that too while being mother of three children and in service. She is at present doing her M.Phil. course in Economics from the Mother Tressa Women’s University. Kodaikanal which is at point of completion. The author ahs travelled widely in India and done lot of studies on various books and literature on Indian Women.
