The Book: The wisdom of Hindus has played a very significant part in all walks of human life in the history of the development of human civilization. Its contribution may be compared only with the contribution of Greek wisdom. When it is said today that India may be a world leader tomorrow, most of it will be contributed by the wisdom of the Hindus. Hinduism is not a religion far less a religious sect. It is not a philosophy. It is a style of living, an integrated approach to human life based on the fundamental facts of human nature and man’s status in the Universe. The style and characteristic approach of Hinduism is multi-sided, electric, synoptic, integrated and developmental. This will undoubtedly play a significant role in the future development of humanity. This is the rationale, if a rationale is required at all for this critical summary of the wisdom of the Hindus in this book. It is meant not only for Hindus but for all those admire such an approach. As the material to be presented in this book is comprehensive, however summarised it may be, this book has been presented in two volumes. The first volume contains chapters on the foundations of Hindu wisdom, Hindu saints and saviours and the contribution of Hindus in Philosophy, civilization, culture, social stratification, individual and social life, family, the status of women and marriage. The second volume summarises the Hindu contribution to various fields of Knowledge and skill: literature, polity, ethics, education, fine arts, science, medicine, mathematic and astronomy. Concluding remarks have obviously been given in the second volume. The author has left no stones unturned to gather relevant material. In concluding remarks an analysis has been made of the contemporary relevance of Hindu wisdom of the contemporary. Relevance of Hindu wisdom, sorting out what is living and what is dead in the light if man’s imperative march towards modernity.
