In the coming years, the elderly population in India will grow phenomenally. At the same time the Family size is reducing, more so in urban areas. Due to housing shortage and an increase in the number of women joining the labour force, an increasing number of elderly people are beginning to share residence with their adult children. Interactions are a natural consequence, which may give rise to conflict situation in the family. This book develops a taxonomy of conflicts arising out of these interactions and examines the issues of conflict in economically sound contemporary urban families. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sunanda Rabindranathan

Sunanda Rabindranathan holds and M.A. and M.Phil in Sociology and a Masters in Population Studies from International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai. She is currently perusing a doctorate in Medical Sociology from The University of Madras. In her previous assignments, she was associated with Centre for Women’s development Studies, parivar seva Sanstha and Population Foundation of India, all based in New Delhi. Her current research interests include different areas of population studies- reproductive health particularly abortion and HIV/AIDS, ageing, gender studies and health communication.
