The book, Children and Television, argues that television plays a central role in the lives of children. Unlike going to school, doing home work or chores at home, TV viewing is a voluntary act. The greater the number of hours of exposure to television, the ore children come under its influence. By and large, parents do not seem to be aware of the importance of giving to their children their quality time. The book establishes that the more parents are available to their children, the less these come under the influence of peers or television. Parents are not only providers; they are also guides who help their children to navigate through a number of factors that influence their attitudes and behaviours. Such guidance will help children develop their personality, realize their potential and grow in appreciation of their potential and grow in appreciation of their cultural norms and beliefs. The book uncovers the influences exerted on children by the daily diet of TV images and entertainment.
