The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Library and Information Science I the first of its kind which has been compiled keeping in view the current needs of the library and information science students and practitioners. The work becomes more relevant today with drastic changes in the field brought out by the latest advancements in Information technology and its application in gathering, recording, retrieving and dissemination of information for all types of human activities. This dictionary explains the traditional concepts of library and information science and also attempts to provide information about the various aspects related with the subject, mainly libraries, library schools, library associations, librarians, information database, software packages, search engines, etc., apart from the newly introduced terminology relating to computers, communications and the Internet. The dictionary covers about 10,000 terms and explains them in 6,00,000 words. Greater details have been provided for the widely used and important concepts. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order and ‘See’ and See also’ references have been given to facilitate an easy search. In compiling a dictionary of this kind, it becomes necessary to draw upon the other works. I Have used information from my own database of about a dozen of books and a number of research articles written over the last two decades apart from referring to a number of websites on the World Wide Web specially liblox, Gabriel, lisgateway, infolibrarian, odlis, wikip[edia, etc. and also the information resources offered by UNESCO and other international organizations.
