ABOUT THE AUTHOR Angana P. Chatterji

Angana P. Chatterji is associate professor of Social and Cultural anthropology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Her work spans issues of cultural survival, nation/ nationalisms, gendered violence, and postcolonial critique. Her recent writings include two forthcoming books, Land and Justice: The Struggle for Cultural survival, and a co-edited volume, contesting Nation: Gendered Violence in South Asia; Notes on the Postcolonial Present.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shabnam Hashmi

Shabnam Hashmi is a social activist who works on issues of civil liberties and political reform, children’s rights, gender and minority rights, nationally and locally across India. She has worked with various organizations that she has helped found, including, SAHER (a non governmental organization working with community development), SAHMAT (Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust), and Anhad (Act Now for Harmony and Democracy). She has undertaken various political campaigns, working with civil society organizations, governments, and other institutions, as well as facilitated the publication of numerous books, periodicals and campaign literature.
