The book is concerned with a blend between population genetics and demography. It deals with the unit of study, or Medelian population, in the field of anthropology and population genetics with special emphasis on the importance of demographic parameters. This book provides a framework for micro population study with a view to understanding the social, demographic and genetic structures of human population. The role of evolutionary forces like natural selection, genetic drift, and mating patterns in bringing about changes in the genetic composition of the Mendelian population has been highlighted with reference to the demographic structure of the War Khasi population of Meghalaya in Northeast India. Therefore, the book will be of immense help to the scholars and policymakers interested in understanding the social and genetic structure of human population.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R. Khongsdier
R. Khongsdier hold M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Anthropology from North-Eastern Hill University. He is currently a faculty member of the Department of Anthropology at North-Eastern Hill University. Previously, he was working as Physical Anthropologist of the Anthropological Survey of India, Government of India, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Culture. He had also served in different capacities in different Offices under the Government of Meghalaya. He has had to his own credit a number of scholarly papers published in edited volumes and journals national and international repute. He has also edited a volume on Contemporary Research in anthropology. He is an active member as well as life member of various professional and anthropological bodies. His areas of research interest include genetical demography, population genetics, biosocial studies, human growth and nutrition.
