The present publication is based on a close examination of twenty-six selected Indian historical periodicals. It is an evaluative study of these periodicals either by way of an account of this growth and development or by resorting to some objective methodology involving numerical data and statistical analysis. At attempt has also been made to review the existing bibliographic control of these selected periodicals. The study covers (i) An account of the growth and development of Indian historical periodicals from 1780 to 1970, (ii) An objective assessment based on citations data and their analysis and (iii) A survey of the existing bibliographic control of Indian historical periodicals since their use as source of research depends on efficient bibliographic control. This study is restricted to the Indian historical periodicals the medium of which has been solely the English language and which have been published up to the year 1970.
