Police: The Human Face is a collection of articles penned over a period of a decade or so with the sole purpose of initiating steps to make face of the humane law and order maintenance machinery more humane and responsive to the aspirations of people of independent India. It may really be very schocking to read about Indian Police as if they are aliens and devoid of the ‘Milk of Human kindness’. The author has made efforts to analyse the working conditions of the Police Force and also to suggest better ways of policing. The analysis of Police sub-culture based on his personal experience should definitely go a long way to infuse professionalism in police functionaries, officers and jawans alike.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ramesh Chandra Dikshit
Ramesh Chandra Dikshit, born on 15th December 1939, received his early education in central Uttar Pradesh. He did M.A. in Geography from Agra University. He began his career as a Lecturer at D.A.V. College. Later, he joined Indian Police Service. He rore to the top and retired as Director General Police Uttar Pradesh. He is the recipient of an award for Meritorious Services and President’s Police Medal for distinguished services. He has written and edited several books, besides contributing a number of research papers and articles to reputed journals, international and national. Now, he is settled at Lucknow and is associated with a good number of academic and social organizations.
