Understanding the marvels of nature can be both thrilling and challenging. But understanding the world of insects can prove exasperating and endless. The one simple reason is that insects alone represent almost 80% of all the animal species put together. The book, “Insects of India†aims at providing a simple and concise account of this extremely diverse and complex insect fauna. It has a refreshingly new approach to bring together information as diverse as: how, where and when to collect insects, their habits and habitats planning the surveys with the help of route maps, and diverse physio-graphic information of the country. Valuable information is provided about the difficult but gorgeous physiography of India with its large mountain systems, diverse forest types and vegetation and four distinctly different seasons. Well over 30 route maps of India along with specific areas for insect collection are introduced for first time. Information about accommodation facilities, transportation and climate, especially in the hilly regions are included. Useful information regarding location of state-wise wild life sanctuaries, national parks, reserve forests and tiger reserves are given in a map of India. Hundreds of Indian insects are described with beautifully illustrated habitat figures. Several coloured illustrations and photographs will be of added interest to the reader. Other interesting features for amateur entomologists include, thought-provoking questionnaire on insect life, a concise write-up on the beautiful insects of India and a glossary of entomological terms. The book is meant for both professional and amateur entomologists, museum experts, agriculturists, tea garden specialists, teachers and students, forest officials, naturalists and environmentalists.
