ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Basu
Dr. S.P. Basu was awarded Ph.D. Degree in Arts by the University of Calcutta on August, 1984, on his thesis, ‘The Concept of Brahma its origin and development’. His other work in ‘The Second Supplementary Catalogue of the vol. 1’ published by Indian Museum, Calcutta in 1977. He was formerly Asstt. Numismatist, Archaeological Section, Indian Museum, Calcutta under Archaeological Survey of India. His contribution to Manipur numismatics by bringing to light the gold coin of Gambhira Singh of Manipur has been recognized as a pioneer effort. For sometime, he was posted at Khajuraho as Curator of the site museum. He was also the Curator-in-charge of the site museums at Bodhgaya, Vella-Goa. At present he is the Curator (Archaeology), Indian Museum, Calcutta. He is specialized in Display Technique in Museum and Museum Education, a specialized training of which he received in West Germany under exchange o Scientists Programme in 1973. The mobile exhibition on Indian History and Archaeology was prepared by him for the first time in India through the Museobus under the auspices of the Indian Museum and was put on wheel under his supervision. He has a very good Sanskrit background. In 1953 Gangamani Silver Medal was awarded to him by the University of Calcutta for his meritorious performance in B.A. Sanskrit (Hons.) Examination. He is an M.A. in Sanskrit with specialisation in History and Epigraphy. He is also Kavyathirtha, a degree on Sanskrit literature from the Government of West Bengal. Besides, he has written a large number of papers of subjects relating to the different fields of Indology and Museology. He has guided many a research worker in spheres of their respective study which was verily concerned with museology and humanities.
