But in both the state’s number of sugar mills have been showing continuous losses year after year. Now the time has come to take a total review of the cost and financial aspects of these sugar mills. This book is an attempt to find out cost trends, profitability and operational efficiency of the Sugar Mills of both the states. The study also attempts to compare the working of the sugar mills of different regions of Uttar Pradesh and Maharastra i.e. particularly after the adoption of new economic Policy 1991. Various statistical devices are used for analyzing the data contained in financial statements for ascertainment of the working results of sugar mills. It provides a guideline to the executives for the sound financial management of sugar factories. ABOUT THE AUTHOR G.A. Nikam
Dr. Gangadhar A. Nikam, M.Com., M.Phil., Ph.D., was born on July 24 1946. He is professor and head, Department of Commerce, dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. Aurangabad (M.S.). He has more than 30 research papers to his credit published in National and International Journals. His current areas of interest are Financial Management, Human Resource management and Organisational Behaviour. He is a Principal investigator of UGC’s major research project on “Indian Sugar Industry: A Comparative study. He is a Co-ordinator for implementing the link programme between universities of jaywardenepura Ambedkar Marahwada University, Aurangabad, since 2003-2004. Recently he was in Sri Lanka for two months to initiate the academic programmes between these two universities. He has written a research book titled “Financial and Cost Analysis of Sugar Co-Operatives, based on Sugar industry of Maharashtra. He is also consulted by National Institute i.e. Vasant Dada Sugar Institute Pune, in the wake of the committee appointed by Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture on revitalization of Indian Sugar Industry year 2003-2004. He has attended national and international seminars/conferences. Recently he had attended Asia-Pacific Conference on Environment management organized by Bunkya University, Tokyo Japan in 1997. He has also visited Korea, Thiland. He is a member of several academic and professional bodies in the field of Commerce and Management.
