ABOUT THE AUTHOR Y.M. Bammi

Lieutenant General Y.M. Bammi (retd.) is a graduate of the Defense Services Staff College. He was commissioned into 4 Gorkha Rifles in 1958. During his 37 years of active service, he fought the 1962 and 1971 wars, and was involved with counter insurgency operations in all border and operational areas of the country. He has held prestigious appointments in the Corps and Army Headquarters, commanded an independent Brigade, a Mountain Division and s Strike Corps, before retiring as the Director General of Assam Rifles. He was India's Defence Advisor to Malaysia and Singapore. He is currently as active member of the IDSA and a Research Fellow at the USI. Gen Bammi has written several articles for professional journals and was recently also invited to an international seminar on Kargil, held in the United States of America.
