The present book is a detailed assessment of the pools and fluxes of detritus in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Besides presenting a comprehensive analysis of the process of detritus decomposition, the book gives an exhaustive account of the biotic and abiotic factors affecting the rate of detritus decomposition. Sumira Tyub is associated with Centre of Research for Development, University of Kashmir, Srinagar (J&K). She has done pioneering work on litter decomposition in temperate grasslands of Kashmir Himalayas.

Zafar Reshi is Reader in the Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, Srinagar. His major research work includes Ecology and Environmental Microbiology. With about 20 years of teaching experience. Dr. Reshi has published 40 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He is a member of several state and national organizations associated with advancement of science.
