The present book, "Public Distribution System–A Socio-Economic Analysis" generates very useful and pertinent information with regard to the identification of beneficiaries and cost-benefit analysis of Public distribution System. The analysis of the impact of the Public Distribution System on foodgrain prices and projection of food grain and sugar requirements for Public Distribution System under four different normative situations generates revealing findings useful for policy purpose. The study states that keeping in view the twin objectives of economic development with social justice, the food subsidy may be continued in the near future. However it may be restricted to the vulnerable population only. For bringing efficiency in the system, the study has suggested useful measures.
