India has made great strides in agricultural production after independence and particularly since 1960s following massive application of science and technology in the field of agriculture and its allied disciplines. The remarkable performance made during the ‘Green Revolution’ era has enhanced the status of India as one of the leading nations in the world so far as agricultural and economic development are concerned. The present volume consisting of six chapter is a modest attempt with critical analyses of India’s agricultural development process through highlighting its achievements in agricultural research and education, community and rural development, extension strategy formulation, increased production in cereals, horticultural crops, fisheries, livestock and dairying and also proposing future thrust and action plan in selected areas to maintain sustainable growth in 21st century. ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.R. Hegde
Dr. M.R. Hegde, Ph.D. (Agronomy) is presently working as Senior Scientist at Transfer of Technology Projects (ICAR), Bangalore, India. Dr. Hegde’s areas of specialization include, Fertilizer and Water Management, Cropping / Farming Systems and Sustainable Agriculture. He has got special flair for transfer of Technology to the farmers. Dr. Hegde has to his credit 20 research papers, several popular articles and one book.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.K. Samanta
Dr. Ranjit Kumar Samanta (b. 1950), obtained M.Sc. (Ag) from University of Kalyani, West Bengal. He was awarded Ph. D. degree in Agricultural Extension by the B.C. Agricultural University, West Bengal in 1978. Dr. Samanta began his teaching career as Assistant Professor of Agricultural Extension at B.C. Agricultural University and then Joined Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 1976. Further academic training of Dr. Samanta has been both in India and in the United States of America./ Dr. Samanta’s areas of specialization are Technology Transfer, Development Communication, Rural Development and Human Communications in Organisations,. He has to his credit six books and over 80 research and otoher professional papers on those disciplines. Presently, Dr. Samanta is Faculty Member and Head, Transfer of Technology Systems and Politices Unit at National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, India.
