Ethnobotany is emerging as a new branch of study documenting the age-old wisdom and knowledge of the ethnic societies (tribals) about the utility of diverse plant species (biodiversity) and their miraculous properties as food and medicine, not yet known to the modern world. Ever since the WHO gave recognition to "Traditional Medicine" in 1976 the herbal folk medicine of ancient times which was temporarily subdued by the modern medicine have staged a come back and a "herbal renaissance" is blooming across the world. Due to various there has been a gradual decline and deterioration of the tribal medicine which provided effective medicare which provided effective medicare for tribals for ages. A significant aspect of the local health tradition, particularly that of the tribals and its practitioners is its self reliant nature. These traditions are entirely autonomous in character and rooted in communities' social tradition and knowledge system and therefore, are holistic and very comprehensive in their approach. The tribal medicine, if revived and revitalized, can effectively meet the primary health care needs of the tribals and rural communities. With these objectives in mind, an attempt has been made to document the precious traditional knowledge on folk medicine, which could provide future drugs for some dreadful diseases that plague mankind. The book is based on the original research of the authors, and highlight the ethnomedicinal and ethnoveterinary medicinal importance of about 384 plant species belonging to 97 families. The plant species have been illustrated either by colored photographs and / or line drawings. A glossary of medical terms used, index of plant species, local names, families (with list of their genera) and subject index have been given.
