With the implication of non-co-operation movement, there was Kanika Meli (1921-22). It has been proved that it was the call of the Congress Party propagandists that then Kanika Raja was levying many unjust taxes and tenants should stop payment of land rents. Levying of many unjust taxes at Kanika ex-estate has been proved false. The double standard writings of Ananda Chandra Jena, Gopabandhu Das and Harekrushna Mahtab which mentions this, are proved not genuine. Thereby the character of then Raja of Kanika, who was Hero of Oriya nationalism has been under estimated. With new findings and approach, the trend followed by all scholars so far, have been broken and it has been that without Raja Sir R.N. Bhanja Deo, Raja of Kanika, who was the right hand of Madhusudan Das, there wouldn’t have been of Orissa province.
