The book deals with the organization and intra party functioning of a dominant political party – Indian National Congress in pre-independence era. Indian National Congress emerged as a political party of dominance during colonial era but with differences. It was a movement represented by a collection of heterogenous interests, individuals, and groups with diametrically opposite economic, political and social ideology having the orientations of feudalism, capitalism, leftism, revolutionaries and pacifists. They all found a common platform within the organization but with a common objective of the liberation of the country. This book comprises five chapters. The first is theoretical, the second deals with early phase of Indian National Congress with liberals and extremists. The third consists of various parties and groups like Congress Democratic Party (1920), independent Congress Party, 1921 and Swaraj Party, 1923, etc. The fourth have investigated the phase of Indian National Congress during Nehru period. Here the difference between the top leadership have been narrated and the formidable groups like Nehru and Gandhi, All India League for Independence 1928, All India Nationalist Muslim Conference and Congress Muslim Party (1929-30) and Congress Democratic Party No. 2, etc. It has come out that the monolithic organization consisted of various individuals and groups having different ideologies, attitudes and approaches but with one common goal of the independence.
