Social History: Socio-Economic Milieu of India Since Independence

The present volume is an attempt on the ongoing discussions regarding the prospects of society, beyond its existing status and from its recent history. It attempts to explore, comparatively new areas and the role of social history in defining and anchoring the continued expansion of our understanding of the past, towards which it has already contributed enormously. This volume engages in central issues of narrative causation, social structuring, and social agency. The comments on social structure, once a socio-historical staple, gain urgency in addressing the cultural turn and its aftermath. Hence it deals with the history of society and some key conventional issues related to it.
