The book provides a critical study of constitutional challenges to some important provisions of the Indian Penal Code 1860. It has taken various aspects of IPC such as edition, obscenity, matrimonial deviance, attempted suicide, death penalty, solitary confinement, etc. It provides a systematic analysis between the two conflicting values ‘Security of Society’ and ‘Dignity of the Individual’. The study finds out the effects of constitutional provisions on the Indian Penal Code. The work takes into account a brief but also scientific application of these provisions of IPC. The Judicial interpretation on constitutional challenges to IPC provisions has yielded many worthwhile inferences. The author has examined the role of various precedents in the interaction between constitution and IPC. The work is further enriched by an illuminating analysis of different aspects of the chosen problem. The work has followed traditional research methodology in investigating the chosen problem. The work merits attention as interaction between the constitution and legal provisions of an ordinary law, such as, IPC have not been studied in detail.
